Move Network Guide

What Is the Movement Network?

The Movement Network is the live network at the center of the Movement ecosystem — described by the project as the global settlement and yield layer for emerging markets. It is the system that partners build on, distinct from any single company that contributes to it. If you are mapping the ecosystem, the network is the durable core; everything else relates to it.

What it is for

The network’s stated purpose is to move value across borders quickly and to let idle stablecoin capital earn, with a focus on markets that traditional finance underserves. In the project’s own framing, it is infrastructure — a settlement and yield layer — rather than a consumer app. Partners and fintechs build products on top of it; the network is the rail underneath.

Its defining characteristics

  • Settlement speed. The project cites block times of 278 milliseconds and settlement in under a second — a consequence of the underlying architecture.
  • Compliant rails. It emphasizes access to licensed payment rails (in the US, Canada, and the EU through partners), which is what lets regulated institutions use it.
  • Emerging-markets focus. It targets corridors and users that legacy finance has historically failed — the “global south” framing.

The network is not the company

This is the ecosystem’s key structural point. The Movement Network is contributed to and operated by companies, but it is not the same thing as any one of them. Today the core contributor is Move Industries, under the stewardship of the Movement Network Foundation. The original operating company, MVMT Labs, has been replaced and is winding down. The network’s continuity does not depend on any single company remaining in the builder’s seat. For the full map, see the ecosystem overview.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Movement Network in simple terms? It is the live network at the heart of the Movement ecosystem, described by the project as a settlement and yield layer for emerging markets — the infrastructure partners build on.

What makes the Movement Network distinctive? The project cites sub-second settlement (block times around 278 milliseconds), access to licensed payment rails in the US, Canada, and the EU through partners, and a focus on emerging markets.

Is the network the same as the company that builds it? No. The network is contributed to by companies but is distinct from any one of them. Move Industries is the current core contributor; the network’s continuity does not depend on a single company.
